March 2007

Wine, Cheese and “L E T T E R S” from the Government

The Women, Land, and Legacy planning committee has a delightful and informative workshop planned for March 22, 2007, at the Malvern Community Building (downstairs). The program for this quarter is titled Wine, Cheese and ‘Letters from the Government’.

So what does all this mean???

A social time will begin the meeting from 6:00 – 6:30 PM. featuring wine tasting and light refreshments.
Immediately following social time, there will be a short “Wine for Dummies” tutorial. Karen Foster of Kings Crossing and Shirley Frederiksen of Golden Hills RC&D will present some surprising information about homegrown Iowa wine.
The second portion of the program, from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m., will be devoted to a topic which all women in agriculture should become familiar. Do the letters DCP, LDP, CRP mean anything to you?
These are the “LETTERS” from the government or acronyms for some very important farm programs that affect all of us. Featured speaker, Bobbi Schaaf, District Director for Farm Service Agency, will not only de-mystify these “LETTERS”, she will conduct mock program sign-ups with a Q & A time so that you will fully understand what is involved in the process and what it means financially for your farm.

Don’t miss this timely workshop. This program should take away any “fear factor” you may have in signing forms at your local Farm Service Agency. You will be better informed for the year ahead and enjoy local wines and refreshments in the process.
For more information on sessions and registration call (712)-624-8606, Ext. 3, or email Belinda. Reservations for this meeting are requested by March 19, 2007. Please note - this program is for adults. Limited space for childcare is available if other arrangements are not possible. Please indicate your needs in advance when making reservations.

This series is for anyone who has an interest in agriculture and the land. Feel free to share this letter with your friends. If you wish to continue to receive mailings from the Women, Land, and Legacy Committee, please respond by phone or email.
