No-Till
No-till is a tillage system
where no disturbance of the soil occurs prior to planting, except for the
injection of liquid fertilizer or anhydrous ammonia. All residues from the previous crop
remain on the soil’s surface to protect it from erosion and to improve
water quality. No-till often is used
to achieve soil conservation requirements on highly erodible land (HEL),
but it is also becoming popular due to its advantages and the emerging
technologies that address its limitations.
Many producers use no-till in conjunction with crop rotations and
measures such as contouring and terracing to meet soil conservation requirements
on highly erodible soils.
